Oliver Luft reports on a new property development in France that allows buyers to combine 16th-century charm with up-to-date mod-cons.
Ever daydreamed about owning a slice of a 16th-century château in the heart of the French countryside, replete with all the luxuries expected of a 21st-century leisure paradise? Now you can turn that dream into a reality.
Amidst a patchwork of rolling fields, swathes of forest and more than a dozen lakes, this idyllic holiday home location oozes tranquillity in the very heart of France’s own Lake District.
Welcome to Chateau de la Cazine. An ocean of calm situated in 90 hectares of rural France it may be, but this setting is still handily placed within 45 minutes of Limoges international airport.
The chateau, which is just a few minutes’ drive from the charming village of La Souterraine and its plethora of amenities, is being extensively renovated so that those enjoying its relaxed charm and classical elegance will also be able to benefit from luxurious extras.
The conversion of the chateau into a five-star hotel will also see a series of luxury suites made available, each with a view stretching across the resort’s manicured golf course to the lakes beyond and the arboretum.
In addition to the golf course, a children’s adventure zone, several restaurants, a gym, equestrian facilities and a spa will be added to the chateau’s traditionally styled outbuildings.
The tranquil lakes will also double as a quiet fishing retreat as nature blends seamlessly with the majestic facilities on offer in what is a bit like an up-market version of Center Parcs.
Barrasford & Bird Worldwide is offering buyers the chance to own one of 17 character-filled suites and apartments in Chateau de la Cazine’s ‘French Village’.
Each suite is being offered at £285,000 for a full-ownership property or at £25,000 for a 1/12 fractional ownership. Deposits for full-ownership properties start at £142,500, but if you are buying a share in this luxurious development you can put down as little as £16,750.
Due to the high demand for properties at the chateau, just 13 fractional ownerships remain and they’re only available in the three-bedroom village properties, at £31,500 each.
Chateau de la Cazine doesn’t just offer peace and quiet: a healthy return on investment is likely for those wishing to let their property. The minimum rental return on a fully owned suite is £14,250, with the potential to rise as high as £32,490 per annum.
For a fractional share, rental return of a minimum of £1,250 is expected, with potential of up to £2,625 each year.
