A new route to Pau gives people in south-east England the chance to fly straight out to their holiday homes there.
Steven Worboys, managing director of overseas investment property specialist Experience International, suggested that the new Cityjet service from London City Airport to Pau, in the Aquitaine region, is good news for anyone who owns a house there.
“There is a great demand for homes in the south-west of France with its stunning and varied scenery,” he said.
“Owners achieve the best of both worlds with close proximity to the mountains … and the coast.”
This allows them to enjoy winter sports in the colder months, while heading to the coast when the summertime arrives, he explained.
Figures from French national real estate federation FNAIM show Pau has become more affordable in recent years, with typical house prices dropping by more than six per cent in 2023.
This takes the town to between €1,841 and €2,124 per square metre in property prices – equivalent to between £1,620 and £2,124.
