Bathrooms are usually the smallest room in the house, yet they play a key role in our lives.
So how can you make the most of this confined space from an interior design point of view? We’ve spoken to Mira Showers, who have a few ideas for you.
1. Colour
An obvious place to start, but the colour scheme will make a big difference to how the room feels. Dark colours can be claustrophobic so aim for a light, neutral colour.
2. Layout
Also essential, the layout needs to be well thought out in order to maximise space. Attempt to maximise space in the bathroom by evenly spacing out bathroom furniture.
3. Be ruthless
If something isn’t completely essential, remove it from your bathroom. If you’re a shower person, consider replacing your bathtub with a shower enclosure to really maximise your floor space.
4. Light
Increasing the amount of light is key to making a room appear larger. If you don’t have enough natural light in your bathroom make sure the lighting you put in is sufficient!
5. Reflective surfaces
Either a sheet of mirror glass or metallic finish tiles will reflect the light and will give the perception of that essential extra space. There is a great range of metallic finish tiles on the market at the moment – just be sure to pay attention to tip number 6!
6. Avoid Grout Lines
Lots of grout lines in between tiles make the room look more cluttered, and therefore smaller. Make sure to go for large tiles to reduce the amount of grout lines to make the room seem larger.
7. Fixtures and fittings
Combining the right fixtures and fittings with a good colour scheme and layout will make the room really special. Sleek and minimalist fittings are a must in making the room appear larger.
8. Floor space
In any small room, the trick is to show off as much floor space as possible. The more floor space you see, the larger the room will feel. You can increase the amount of visible floor space by mounting sanitary ware and storage, allowing your eyes to travel to the floor underneath.
9. Accessories
Accessories are the finishing touch for any room, and a small bathroom is no exception. Accessories are a great opportunity to bring in splashes of colour and to add texture and interest. It doesn’t have to be anything too extreme though: a few fluffy towels and some luxury soaps might be all you need.
10. Keep it tidy
Bathrooms have the tendency to get full to the brim of different products, leaving them clutter wastelands. But just like any other room this can make them seem smaller, not to mention disorganised. If you can’t keep the product levels down, go for a basket or bathroom cabinet.
