Speaking at the Ideal Home Show at London’s Earls Court earlier this year, homestyle consultant Laurence Llewellyn Bowen had this to say about creating a stylish home:
“It’s not about the money you spend. It’s about how you put things together.”
There is a lot of truth to Mr Llewellyn Bowen’s statement. When credit was free-flowing, people spent money with very little regard to the consequences, however, now that belts have had to be tightened, people are much more cautious with their money and what they spend it on.
It has always been the case that you can create a stylish bedroom on a budget, however, it is only now that people are forced to watch the pennies that they realise this is the case.
If your bedroom needs some fizz putting back into it, you can do so without burning a hole in your pocket. Today, you can get bedroom furniture sets, mirrors, fabrics and accessories at very reasonable prices, allowing you to inject some style into your bedroom.
A key consideration in any bedroom is the wardrobe.
In previous years, sliding door wardrobes were quite expensive, however, this is not necessarily the case any more.
Today, many companies produce these units and prices have come down considerably. That means you should be able to find one of these stylish units at a price you can afford.
The key is to shop around and look online at different providers to see what is out there.
Sliding door wardrobes can have a dramatic visual impact on your room, so they are something worth considering.
You can also add other pieces of furniture for not very much money at all. Nowadays, bedside tables, chests of drawers and shelves can all be secured at reasonable prices, so you can completely revamp your bedroom furniture without blowing your entire budget.
Rather than shopping around for different pieces individually, you could invest in a bedroom furniture set containing various items in a single package.
In previous years, these were viewed by some people as being of a low quality, however, there are some very well-made and stylish sets available, so it is worth exploring.
Breathing new life into your room extends beyond furniture and it is worth considering new wallpaper. If you are not keen on wallpaper, painting the walls a different colour is an alternative.
Both paint and wallpaper can be secured relatively cheaply. Many people are cautious about putting up wallpaper themselves, however, nowadays you can purchase paper that already has paste applied to it, so it need not be the laborious task you imagine it to be.
Rugs are also a consideration. Replacing the flooring can be an expensive job, so look to do it on a budget through the inclusion of one or more rugs.
As Lawrence Llewellyn Bowen said, it is not what you spend, it is what you do with what you have bought.
You may have to try your new furniture in a variety of arrangements before you are happy, but as long as you like the pieces you have bought, you will find a setup that ticks your boxes.
There is endless room for creativity when it comes to recreating your bedroom and a limited budget need not hold you back, so do not let it.
